the popularity of meals in a box started a little over a year ago, though the concept has been around for a few. i first heard about this from cup of jo, when she introduced blue apron, a company that offers meal delivery service with fresh ingredients and healthy recipes. the rates sounded reasonable: $10 per person per meal. it is healthier than ordering take out and easier than trying to meal plan and ingredient shopping. no excuses! i tried out blue apron for a few weeks, and enjoyed cooking different meals that i would never have cooked if i were to meal plan, but stopped due to traveling, and never started back up again. from my experience, the meals took longer than 30 mins, and i found that some ingredients were not as fresh as they should be.
a close girlfriend and i were chatting over drinks on night, and the topic of meal delivery came up. she introduced me to hellofresh, it's the same concept as blue apron, and plus, with her referral, i got a discount. nothing to lose.
on thursday, we got our first hellofresh delivery! it was packed efficiency; instead of ice packs, they kept the ingredients fresh with frozen bottles of water! how smart is that? each meal was packed in its individual plastic bag, so i don't need to rummage around and figure out which goes with what.
our first meal was cooked tonight: wild mushroom fettuccine. i timed myself. it took me exactly 28 mins from the start to serving the meal. not bad at all, and it was very tasty and healthy. d enjoyed it very much as well - which was important!
what's for dinner: wild mushroom fettuccine, topped with parsley and parmesan cheese.
all in all, great experience so far with hellofresh, and i'm looking forward to cooking our next two meals: chicken paillard and tomato basil ragu. after 3 weeks of being lazy and not cooking a real meal, it feels good to get back into food creation and feeding my husband.
thanks J!
