a day in the life.

i thought it would be fun to record a whole day in my life, minus the boring hours of work, and see what i really do. mon-thurs my routine is pretty consistent, with the occasional dates with my girlfriends. this was a record of what i did on tues 1/13:

5:45am – the alarm goes off. i normally snooze for the next 16 minutes and draaaag myself out of bed. since I started at poppin back in september, i’ve going to yoga every tuesday and thursday mornings, despite the bitter cold winter temperatures, waking up before the crack of dawn. rolling out of bed is hard, especially when the bedroom temperature is chilly and it’s still dark outside. jake and jane are already up, crunching away at their breakfast from the automatic feeder, which goes off at 5:35am.

6:15am – face washed, teeth brushed, already in the kitchen with my cup of hot water and starting on my daily smoothie – apple, pear, orange, celery, carrot, blueberries, spinach, coconut water, ginger, and chia seeds. lunch is packed, and now it’s time to change for the day before i head out the door in 15 minutes!

6:34am – i’m “late” going out the door again; i pet the kitties goodbye and “see you later tonight”, put on my layers, and grab the bag i *thankfully* packed last night with my yoga gear and run out the door. fingers crossed that the wait for the bus is under 5 minutes today and i get a seat! rushing to the bus stop, i smile as i receive a “good morning” text from D, with a kissy face.

7:06am – the bus arrives at port authority. i, along with thousands of other riders descend the stairs and through the hallways, and make my way into the bustling city. normally i would make my way to broadway and walk down to the office, but since it’s yoga day and so early in the morning, i treat myself to a subway ride.

7:25am – i’m relaxed, laying down in savasana, waiting for the class to begin. the next hour will be about me, my body, and my mind.

8:40am – feeling energized after a demanding session – i’ve been working on my handstand, and i'm almost there! i’m on my way to work. a brisk 7 block walk from the yoga studio to the office is a nice way to cool down. at the office, i proceed with making my breakfast – toasted multi-grain bread with almond butter, hardboiled egg and avocado. healthy and filling. and i’m off to my first meeting of the day!

12:48pm – i’ve been thinking about lunch for the past hour, even though i’m still satisfied from breakfast. it’s just a habit. don’t judge me. i’ve been doing semi-homemade lunches, going to city bakery to pick up some of their famous kale salad and topping it with the components i brought from home. this way, it allows me to take a walk outside, get some fresh air, but spend only a little bit of money on lunch.

4:13pm – the afternoon drags on as i count down to 6pm. throughout the day, i drink a lot of hot water with lemon.

5:56pm – time to start wrapping up. i write a to-do list for the next day, look at my calendar to make sure i have all the materials for the meetings prepped. i head out and walk up broadway, back to port authority to take the bus home.

7:23pm – cooking for one really sucks, so i usually grab whatever leftover i have from the weekend and put it together in something appetizing and presentable. tonight’s dinner will be quinoa, turkey meatballs, and broccoli topped with sirarcha. not bad. sounds like yesterday’s dinner.

9:28pm – after a bit of aimlessly tv watching while stretching and practicing my head stand, it’s time for bed! The kitties are already meowing for their bedtime snack, so i get them ready for bed first, and hop in the shower. i’ve been in love with l’occitane’s almond collection and use the entire shower collection. it smells divine and turns the shower into a spa experience for me. i also love the lingering scent on my bath towels and sheets.

9:48pm – D and I chat briefly on the phone as i curl up into a ball between the sheets. two more nights until he’s back home and can help warm up my popsicle feet! after a bit of insta-surfing, i would allow myself to drift off into deep, deep sleep.
