halmoni.

whenever D and i visited la, it was for a cousin's or friend's wedding. unfortunately, this time around, it was for D's halmoni's funeral. she lived a long life and passed away peacefully in her sleep on monday 7/13, a week shy of her 95th birthday.

the whole choi family came together to celebrate her life. though i did not have a chance to get to know her better, i knew her love for each of her children, grandchildren, and above all, God, ran deep in her veins. it was such a honor and privilege to be a part of her extended family and to be there to say farewell with the rest of the family. D and i made the best out of our trip, spending quality time with the family, listening to the parents tell funny stories, reminiscing their immigrant life.

instead of hotels, we rented two 2-bedroom apartments in downtown la, one for Brian's parents (our imo and imopu) and D's parents, and the other for myself, D, Brian, and Johnny. it was a great set up since all of us were together, instead of having individual hotel rooms.

we ate, we drank, and we remembered.
